In a major drug bust in mid seas, Narcotics Control Bureau developed specific inputs regarding the trafficking of huge quantity of Ganja and other drugs from Rameswaram coast of Tamilnadu to Srilanka through small boats.

 

On an input provided by Narcotics Control Bureau, Indian Coast Guard patrolling teams maintained surveillance in coastal areas of Rameswaram and Ramnathapuram. This resulted in the interception of an Indian fishing boat and apprehended four suspects from the boat on 21.11.2022. The search of the boat resulted in the recovery of 300 Kgs of Ganja and 500 Gms of Hashish Oil. Initial interrogation of four persons revealed that they are trafficking Ganja to Srilanka and will deliver the contraband to Srilankan boat at specific location in sea as decided by Srilankan counterparts.

 

The boat alongwith seized drugs and intercepted persons brought by the Indian Coast Guard surveillance ships to Ramnathapuram for handing over to NCB, Chennai and for further enquiry. All the persons will be questioned and booked under relevant sections of NDPS Act 1985.
